PM recovering well, cheerful after surgery

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had a restful night and was recovering well after undergoing right knee replacement surgery at the Breach Candy hospital in Bombay.

"The prime minister had a restful night and is cheerful," Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Mangalprabhat Lodha told PTI.

Vajpayee had light breakfast, Lodha, who is handling the media at the hospital, said.

The surgery was performed Thursday by renowned US based orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat who had done a similar operation to replace Vajpayee's left knee joint in October last year.
