No role for BJP in temple
construction: Sankaracharya

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The Puri Sankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati on Friday said the Bharatiya Janata Party must keep away from the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"It is the job of sadhus and sants, there is no role in it for the BJP or any other political party," he said.

The Sankaracharya alleged that the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya was delayed because of the BJP's involvement in it. "I have said this before and will repeat it: we will convince Muslims that the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya is the best way to sort out this dispute," he said.

The Sankaracharya said the BJP has lost its identity of a Hindu party. "Just after the Independence, the Congress also was considered a Hindu party. But look what has become of it today. BJP too, after gaining power, has shown its true colours," he said.
