Political morality is at a very low level in Manipur: Governor

Political morality is at a very low level in Manipur where political opportunism has been playing havoc with the whole system, Governor Ved Prakash Marwah said in an interview broadcast on Tuesday.

"Political opportunism has been playing havoc with the whole system. There are MLAs who have changed their loyalties twice or thrice in a matter of two or three weeks," he told Star News.

"From the time the present state assembly came into existence last year, some MLAs have hopped parties six times and they are ready to do so again," Marwah said.

The governor, who has recommended the imposition of President's rule in Manipur following weeks of political turmoil after the fall of the Radhabinod Koijam ministry, said the "structure of political parties is very weak. It is individuals really that win the elections in Manipur and not a party."
