Four killed in Srinagar blast

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Four civilians, including two women, died Monday morning after a hand grenade exploded at Batmallo in uptown Srinagar.

Police said 11 others were injured in the explosion, which shook the Batamallo locality near the city's main bus stand, and immediately rushed to hospital.

Sources said militants had targeted a Border Security Force bunker near the bus stand. The grenade missed the target and exploded on a road where a large number of people were waiting for a bus.

Senior police officers have rushed to the spot. The area has been cordoned off and searches mounted.

Police sources said the condition of at least five persons is critical.
