Message: Ask any of the youth of today about the acting of shivaji ganesan, they just dismiss it by saying "he overacts!" they forget one thing... shivaji began his career as a drama artist. (the prefix 'shivaji' in his name was conferred upon him for his matchless and truly out-of-the-world performance as the ruler shivaji in a stage performance).
basically drama is different from cinema. in drama one has to express oneself in such a way that even the person in the last row is able to get it... and so one has to exaggerate one's movements. in his case he followed it in cine field too. most of the youth of today have an underrated view of the chevalier. but one movie, devar magan (kamal-starrer) proved me wrong. i am lost for words to describe his performance... and he was conferred with the best actor (special jury) national award. i do recommend to the youth of today to watch that movie. i am extremely distressed to hear the news. i have and will continue to have a unparalleled regard for this genius-par-excellence. before i conclude, the people of tamil nadu of today have not seen either Veerapandia Kattabomman (a bold revolutionary ruler of tamil nadu) or Chhatrapathy Shivaji, or V O Chidambaram (freedom fighter) in reality.
but shivaji ganesan's performance helped us to get an image of these greats. whenever one thinks about these people, one cannot help the image of s ganesan pop up. let's not forget he was awarded the golden pyramid award by the egypt govt in an international film festival as best actor for the movie Veerapandia Kattabomman.
