In an apparent snub to Trinamul Congress' efforts to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday suggested formulation of norms for "entry or re-entry" of any party into the ruling alliance.
In a slanted reference to Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee, party president K Jana Krishnamurthy, in his introductory address at the three-day national executive of the party, said: "None of the partners can enjoy a right to hurt NDA and then ask for benefits from it."
He said it would be in the best interests of the NDA, both in the short term and long term, if certain checks were maintained on entry or re-entry of any party into NDA. "I hope NDA as a whole will give due consideration to this suggestion of mine," Jana Krishnamurthy said.
Pointing out that two of the NDA allies (Pattali Makkal Katchi and Trinamul) left the alliance before the recent assembly elections for reasons of their own, he said: "After achieving the purpose for which they left, they now appear to be desirous of returning to the NDA fold."
PMK, which had left the alliance to tie up with the All India Anna DMK in Tamil Nadu, rejoined NDA only a couple of days back.
