The national working committee of the party, which met in Calcutta, constituted a five-member committee to investigate into the anti-party activities of Panja, TC spokesman Sudip Bandopadhyay said.
The five members of the committee were Calcutta Mayor Subrata Mukherjee, chairman of TC policy-making body Pankaj Banerjee, state president Subrata Bakshi, Member of Parliament Akbar Ali Khondakar and senior leader Sardar Amjad Ali, he told reporters after the crucial meeting.
The working committee meeting was presided over by Ranjit Panja, MP and brother of the dissident leader.
TC chief Mamata Banerjee was also present in the meeting besides other MPs except Nitish Sengupta who could not attend due to his wife's illness, Bandopadhyay said.
Ajit Panja was not invited to the meeting. When contacted, Panja said he would give his reaction on Tuesday.
Bandopadhyay said the TC state committee had earlier recommended strong action against Panja to the highest body of the party.
Similarly, TC parliamentary party which had met recently in a resolution also recommended action against the dissident leader, he said.
To a question, Bandopadhyay, however, said there was no timeframe for submitting the enquiry report by the committee.
Asked whether the party took any decision regarding rejoining the NDA, he said the parliamentary party had already authorised Banerjee to take a decision on this issue.
The working committee meeting, he said, expressed full faith on Banerjee's leadership.
He said the meeting also condemned 'continued post-poll violence by the CPI-M'.
