India, Pak troops exchange fire along LoC

Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire at various places along the international border and the Line of Control in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir since Friday evening.

"Pakistani rangers opened fire on our 33 border outposts in Samba, R S Pura and Akhnoor sectors," a Border Security Force spokesman said.

The BSF troops, guarding the front line along international border in Jammu frontier, retaliated and the intermittent exchange of fire continued till Saturday morning, he said.

He added that heavy exchange of fire also took place in the Akhnoor sector.

However, no loss of life or property has been reported.

Reports from Rajouri and Poonch districts said the two sides also exchanged light arms fire at several places along the LoC since Friday evening, the spokesman added.

Defence sources described the exchanges 'as a routine matter'.

"Pakistani troops usually resort to firing along LoC in a bid to provide cover to intruders," they said.
