India ranks 115th among 162 countries on the basis of the Human Development Index as calculated by the United Nations and is placed among states in the medium human development category.
Pakistan, which finds place among low human development nations, is way down at 127 closely followed by Nepal (129), Bhutan (130) and Bangladesh (132), the UN Human Development report released on Tuesday said.
Singapore in 26th position is rated among high-ranking countries and Malaysia in 56th position is among medium human development nations. Vietnam gets 101 rank followed by Indonesia at 102.
Sri Lanka in 81st place is above China, which is rated 87th in the index for calculation of which several complex factors including life expectancy, literacy rate, per capita GDP, availability of health care and basic amenities are taken into consideration.
Norway, Australia, Canada, Sweden and Belgium occupy first five positions followed by the United States, Iceland, Netherlands, Japan and Finland.
France occupies 13th position after Switzerland and Luxemburg and is followed by Britain and Denmark.
But the former superpower Russia is among the medium human development nations at 55.
On the other end of the scale are all African nations -- Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Niger and Sierra Leone.
