Chohan seeks meeting with Vajpayee

'Khalistan' ideologue Jagjit Singh Chohan on Monday sought a meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to discuss issues related to Punjab.

Chohan, who was on a brief visit to his ancestral village Tanda, told reporters that he considered Vajpayee a 'real statesman' and issues could be resolved amicably by having discussions with him.

He said people misunderstood the Khalistani ideology and violence had further ruined it. "Changing the name of Punjab to Khalistan is the first initiative towards my 'Khalistan' mission."

"We want 'Khalistan' within the Constitution and it should be given more powers by amending the Constitution," he said.
