A governor cannot justify her acts: Fathima

Fathima Beevi, who resigned as Tamil Nadu governor following the controversy over former chief minister M Karunanidhi's arrest, on Monday said a governor does not justify her acts.

In a statement to the press, Beevi, a former judge of the Supreme Court, said everyone is aware that she is not a politician. "I respect the government, the Constitution of India and the law of the land. Politicians can trade charges and retaliate. But a governor, cannot, at any point of time, seek to justify his or her acts," she said.

Thanking the people of the state for the love and affection shown to her during her three years' tenure as governor, Fathima conveyed her best wishes to the people of the state.

She said she was very grateful to President K R Narayanan for having given her an opportunity to serve in Tamil Nadu.
