SHO killed in Srinagar blast

Mukhtar Ahmed in Srinagar

A day after the prime minister extended the unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir by another month, Srinagar was rocked by a massive explosion early Wednesday morning killing the Station House Officer of Ram Munshi Bagh police station.

Sources said that an improvised explosive device was planted in a urinal on the Boulevard road in Dalgate and it exploded when SHO Ghulam Hassan Naz went inside to use it.

The guards of the SHO encircled the spot and fired indiscriminately after the explosion.

Senior police and security forces rushed to the spot.

The area has been cordoned off by security forces.

Naz's body is being brought to the police control room in Srinagar.
