Don't allow Geelani to go to Pakistan: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party said on Monday that the government should not allow All-Parties Hurriyat Conference leader and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani to visit Pakistan because of his openly anti-India stance.

Senior BJP leader Jagdish Prasad Mathur said that considering Geelani's 'background' and utterances against India, it would not be 'appropriate and timely' to allow him to be a part of the APHC delegation to Pakistan.

He said the APHC did not represent the entire spectrum of political opinion in the state and the views of political and social organisations in Jammu and Ladakh should also be taken into account.

Condemning Sunday's abortive attempt on the life of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mathur said the party was happy that the 'tallest leader' of Kashmir had escaped unhurt. "Everyone will pray for his long and healthy life," he said.
