65 injured at Jaipur's kite flying festival

NEW DELHI (AFP) - At least 65 people were injured when they fell from rooftops during the annual kite-flying festival on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Sunday in Jaipur, officials said.

The officials said most of the victims were children who were flying kites from their homes and not participants at the competition, which was attended by fliers from all over India.

Most of the young fliers were treated for fractures and bruises, an official from Jaipur added.

The reigning national kite-flying champion Athar Bhai on Sunday walked away with the year's trophy during the one-day event.
