Another starvation death in Orissa

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The severe drought in Bolangir district of western Orissa claimed another life. A 35-year-old woman Kar Bhoi of Badagumuda village died due to starvation on Friday. Earlier, the death of a 30-year-old woman Premila Bhoi in the same village has caused an outcry in the state assembly.

Local Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja alleged that Bhoi and her three sons were without food for the last three days.

Ironically, the death came at a time when Special Relief Commissioner H K Panda was investigating the alleged starvation death of Premila Bhoi.

However, the Biju Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government led by Naveen Patnaik denied any starvation deaths in Bolangir.
