Govt to issue passport to Yaseen Malik

Government will issue passport to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yaseen Malik to enable him to travel to the United States and the United Kingdom for medical treatment, an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said in Delhi on Thursday.

The spokesperson said Malik, whose three valves of the heart have been damaged, has put in a request for a passport.

Malik, who had applied for the travel documents in September last year, is the fourth Hurriyat executive member to be issued a passport.

The MEA had issued a passport to another senior Hurriyat executive member Abdul Ghani Lone permitting him to travel to Pakistan and attend the marriage ceremony of his son. His passport is valid till March end.

Former chairman of the Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umer Farooq also has a valid passport while noted Shia leader Maulana Abbas Ansari's passport had been impounded after his return from Doha, capital of Qatar.
