Hurriyat pulled up for parroting Pak line

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The government will issue passports to Hurriyat leaders for their proposed journey to Pakistan but they must stop parroting the Islamabad line on Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader on Wednesday.

BJP vice-president K Jana Krishnamurthy said the government had "almost completed" the formalities of issuing passports to "deserving Hurriyat leaders," but added that it was shocking to see some of them speaking the same language as the Pakistani establishment.

"I can tell you that the government is interested in issuing passports to its citizens and not to those consistently parroting the Pakistan line," he said.

Krishnamurthy said the government has provided a long rope to Hurriyat leaders, but it did not relish the fact that some of them should behave like the Jamaat-i-Islami leaders in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader G M Butt told rediff.com that he and his colleagues would leave Delhi for Srinagar on Thursday to attend an executive committee meeting.

Asked whether the Hurriyat leaders were frustrated by the delay in issuance of passports, Butt said: "There is no question of frustration. We will decide out strategy in Srinagar."
