JKLF chief says Qureshi was
just a member: PTI

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Amanullah Khan Tuesday said Hashim Qureshi was neither a founder nor founder-member nor a front-ranking leader of JKLF, as was being projected by the Indian media.

Qureshi was not a founder-member even of the Jammu Kashmir National Liberation Front founded in 1965 among others by Maqbool Butt and himself (Amanullah Khan), the JKLF chairman said in a statement.

Qureshi joined it in 1969 or early 1970, he said, adding that he was given the job by the JKNLF to hijack an Indian plane to internationalise the Kashmir issue.

Amanullah Khan said Qureshi hijacked the plane in 1971 and brought it to Lahore.

In 1982, Qureshi joined the JKLF (formed in 1977) and was given responsibility of organising it in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, he said, adding that he was paid a monthly salary for the job and was the only paid member of the organisation.

But Qureshi started a campaign against the JKLF and its leader (Amanullah Khan), levelling baseless allegations against him, he said.

It was clear his pay-masters had assigned him the job, he said, adding that it was not long before it became clear that he was doing it under instructions from the Indian intelligence.

After he started openly supporting India on Kashmir and before going to India, Qureshi visited the Middle East, Nepal, European countries, the United States and Pakistan, where he tried to defame the JKLF leadership, the statement said.
