SPO killed in J&K

An SPO was killed and five security personnel injured when militants attacked security forces at a village in Bhaderwah area in Jammu region's Doda district, an official spokesman said.

A house was gutted in the exchange of fire, he said, adding some arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

Tension gripped parts of south and north Kashmir following the death of two persons who, residents alleged, were tortured by security forces.

The death of 65-year-old Ghulam Mohiuddin Pandit, who along with another person was arrested by security forces during a raid on their village Mahandpora in Pulwama district and later let off, sparked tension in the area.

In the second instance, the body of one Ghulam Ahmad Shah was found in Amberpora area in Baramulla district. Relatives alleged security forces tortured him during interrogation.

Militants fired three rifle grenades at a CRPF camp at Gopalpora in Badgam district on Sunday afternoon but no was injured, the spokesman said.

In another incident, police repulsed an attack on Kraligund police station in Kupwara district, the spokesman said.
