Minister blames Hurriyat for trouble in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir minister for works Ali Mohammad Sagar has blamed the Hurriyat leaders for inducing youth to indulge in violence and fomenting trouble in the state.

A stetement issued by the information department on Monday said that Sagar was addressing a meeting of divisional officers Sunday that reviewed the position of essential supplies and the inconvenience caused to the public due to imposition of curfew in some parts of the city.

The minister said people of the state were peace-loving and had seen through the gameplan of the Hurriyat leadership.

''Having failed to garner public support, these people are now encouraging violence and pushing young children to streets for demonstrations and stone-pelting,'' he added.

Sagar saw a sinister design in the chain of events beginning with the Mehjoor Nagar killings earlier this month and criticised those who were maligning the state government for stepped up violence.

The government was alive to the problems faced by the people due to the difficult situation thrown up by militancy, he added.

Reaffirming the government stand on dealing with militants, Sagar said all security agencies have been asked to ensure that innocent civilians were not inconvenienced during the anti-militancy operations.

Public support was the cornerstone of any dispensation and no popular government could afford to ignore the concerns of its people, he said.

The minister said misgivings created by vested interests were aimed at creating a wedge between the government and the people.

He dismissed as baseless the apprehensions expressed by some quarters that the judicial inquiry ordered by the government into the firing incident at Haigam would be an eyewash.

The inquiry report would be made public and those found guilty punished according to the law, he added.

He called upon the civil administration to work for minimizing the peoples sufferings and remove the impression created by anti-people forces that the government was not sensitive to the people's difficulties.
