J&K police to move installations out of civilian areas

Following Friday's suicide attack on the Jammu & Kashmir Armed Police headquarters, the state government has decided to shift all important police installations out of civilian areas.

Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah made this announcement after visiting the JKAP headquarters, which also houses the state police control room.

Dr Abdullah said, "Important police installations need to be shifted from congested civilian areas so that police personnel can handle such situations effectively."

He said the police should "always keep in mind that the civilians in such areas are not harmed while retaliating against the militant attacks".

The chief minister promised all possible assistance to the bereaved families, including their proper rehabilitation.

Before emplaning for Jammu, he reviewed the overall situation in the state at the unified headquarters in Srinagar. Lieutenant General J K Mukherjee, Kashmir corps commander, the Jammu corps commander, senior paramilitary, police and intelligence officers attended the meeting.

This was the first meeting after the unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir. The meeting discussed the increasing 'fidayeen' attacks and the latest spurt in violence.
