Musharraf sees signs of progress on J&K

Pakistan's military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf, said on Monday that there have been signs of 'progress' on Jammu & Kashmir and once negotiations move forward "things will start moving towards normalcy".

Travelling to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on 'Kashmir Solidarity Day', Gen Musharraf repeated Pakistan's 'moral' support to the separatists' cause.

He asked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to show 'statesmanship' and move forward to resolve the dispute. Pakistan would not lag behind and would go half the way, he promised.

But, he said, Pakistan would not accept any condition for the resumption of dialogue and Kashmir would dominate any dialogue between the neighbours.

He said India should not delay the visit of a Hurriyat Conference delegation to Pakistan if New Delhi is "sincere" about resolving the Kashmir issue.

Stating that the delegation's visit to Pakistan would not harm India, he noted that once negotiations on Kashmir moved forward, things would start moving towards normalcy.
