'My daughter and her family are in Gandhidham and we could talk to them only yesterday. Our heartfelt sympathies are with the families of the victims'

Condolence Message:I feel so depressed with the thought that so many people have lost their lives. But what agitates me is the unplanned relief operation. I have been reading on rediff.com how so much aid that has arrived is mis-directed or even not directed at all. I read about how the medical team from Japan was asked to go to Ghandinagar and also how the there is no planning and no strategy for the relief operation. I have been reading on all most all websites that tons and tons of medical help.. 1000s of blankets are being send. where are they going ? From what I read the inner villages of bhuj have yet not received a single blanket .. even after 5 days after the quake.. why is the relief operation NOT in its top gear... what is the RAF doing ? this is a complete fiasco . The only thought that comes to my mind is not how many lives that were lost because of the natural disaster (that was inevitable) but how many could have been saved had we acted in a timely manner and how many we still loose or will loose because relief operations are not carried out properly. May God be with all the people affected by this disaster. and may the souls of all the people who lost their lives rest in peace.

Condolence Message:I think the most important task at hand now, even more than providing food and water is to punish those who were responsible for the houses (builders and contractors) to collapse , to be punished . This can be done by suing them for damages to property and people . Unless these builders are punished , this thing will happen again and again . I will lend whatever monetary support i can , if some NGO can file a lawsuit . A national discussion on earthquake prevention/handling is required .

Condolence Message:Villages & towns of 21stC: When the pain and suffering has lessened may we plan for the tomorrows when Bhuj, Anjaar and countless other town and villages will have to be rebuilt. This calamity may be the awakening of all of us, may the new garden villages/towns be such that they also become the tirthsthans of Bharat. It is not only the buildings that will have to be built to last, also water and energy resources, irrigation, fields and trees will mostly have to be on self-sustaining basis. The technology for all these things is already tried and tested, let us work together to put all this into practice. As we may be from different language regions may I suggest Samskrit as the lokbasha for all. Any village and/or town planners of the 21st century there? We could do worse than copy Harrapa and Mohenjdaro. Waiting for the call, Jiten.

Condolence Message:Hello, It is a great moment of tragedy in Gujarat and India. My sympathies to all those who are suffering. But also look at these facts. 1. is there any seismic map of earthquake prone regions of india. 2. is there any procedure in constructing building which are earthquake proof. 3. in any way the governemtn officials can be educated so as not to expect money in crucial matters like city planning, electricty, housing, water etc. 4. r there any firestations equipped to deal with a small fire leave alone disasters. the answer to all above and many other questions is a sorry 'no'. atleast this disaster should propel us in coming days to plan better and live wiser.

Condolence Message:Amidst the heartening news that our people and other countries have risen to the occassion by donating generously towards the cause of quake hit people ,it's what we do after this is more important than what we have done so far.India has a poor track record of managing the aftermath of natural disasters in terms of rendering psycological and emotional support to the affected people. This is of paramount importance rather than just the money because this is what is going to make the affected people cope up with this grave disaster and get along with the course of life. Please remember that unlike foriegn countries we don't have any cells( a panel of doctors/psycologists who help people in coping up with this deep trauma) Hence our task doesn't end with the donation of money. It just begins here. The focus of this support should be reviving the hopes of people. This is , by no means, an easy task.To achieve this we may have to adopt the parentless kids, we may have to rebuild homes, we may have to marry those affected girls who have just lost everything. May we pray the almighty that there are enough minds bestowed with kindness/warmth/affection/empathy amidst the population of 1 billion. Thank yu A Soul that cries for the affected people.

Condolence Message:I feel a tremendous sadness at the death and destruction the earthquake has caused. To see the lives of so many millions completely wrecked in a matter of 30 seconds by the awesome forces of nature -- one feels so helpless seeing the suffering on TV screens day after day and being unable to help except by way of a financial contribution. I would like to help in more ways than this.

Condolence Message:So sorry to hear all this, I can only imagine how painful is the whole situation. I've been reading everything on the net since day one. We here in BC Canada are collecting cash donations through our 36 Sikh Gurudwara's Societies and local radio for the earthquake victims. The only worry is the power hungry and corrupt Indian bureaucrats, if they will ever let this aid to reach the people who actually needs it the most. I can't stop myself from writing this that officials were more busy to attend to PM's visit than to provide directions to the foreign earthquake relief teams who were waiting to start somewhere for three days, what a shame!!. Think about the lives that could've been saved. We all here pray for the peace to all those departed souls and the families who lost their loved ones. Kuljit
