Eighteen army soldiers were killed in a blast during training exercises on the India-Pakistan border, official reports reaching Jaisalmer said on Saturday.
The reports said the mishap occurred on Friday on the border between Longewal and Sadewala killing the soldiers on spot.
The soldiers were being trained in defusing land mines when the accident occurred.
The noise of the blast was heard up to a few kilometres away causing panic in border villages.
Defence sources, however, refused to give any details of the mishap and the casualty figures.
