Three soldiers killed in encounter with J&K militants

Mukhtar Ahmed in Srinagar

Three army soldiers and an equal number of militants were killed in a fierce gun battle at village Kilwani in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon.

Police sources said militants hiding in a house opened fire on a raiding party of the security forces in the village during a 'cordon and search' operation.

Three soldiers of the Rashtriya Rifles died on the spot in the firing by the militants.

The troops later engaged the hiding militants in a fierce encounter during which all three were killed.

The house in which they were hiding was also destroyed.
