Terrorists try to storm army camp in J&K; 1 killed

Terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba on Friday tried to storm a camp of the Rashtriya Rifles in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, but alert security personnel repulsed the attack, killing one of them.

The terrorists opened fire on the camp at Zainapora in Shopian area, housing the troops of the First Rashtriya Rifles, around 3:30 am. One of the militants came near the boundary wall and tried to sneak in, a police spokesman said.

The troops, however, shot him dead, the spokesman said, adding that an AK assault rifle, a grenade and some ammunition were recovered from him.

A hunt has been launched to nab his accomplices.

On December 4, a group of militants had attacked the headquarters of 21 Rashtriya Rifles in Kupwara, triggering a fierce encounter which left three militants and two armymen dead.
