The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday said it was not involved in any dialogue with the government to sort out the Ayodhya issue.
VHP leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore told Indo-Asian News Service that he had no idea who Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was referring to when he said earlier this week that the government was engaged in a dialogue to resolve the dispute.
"I must clarify that Vajpayee is not talking to the VHP," Kishore said. "We have not been contacted by the government."
The prime minister's surprise announcement about the secret talks was made at his constituency Lucknow. Vajpayee had said he hoped to solve the dispute by March next year.
Prominent Muslim groups like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Babri Masjid Action Committee have already denied their involvement in any talks.
Kishore also reiterated the VHP's resolve to begin building a temple at the site of the Babri mosque, despite a court order banning any construction at the site.
