Militant behind attack on Omar Abdullah's chopper killed

In a major success, security forces killed foreign mercenary Abu Usman, the brain behind the attack on a helicopter carrying Union Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah, in the frontier district of Kupwara on Monday night, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

He said Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police and army personnel, acting on a specific information, raided Dardpora forest and in the ensuing encounter Usman, a self-styled combined chief of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Al-Badr and Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed.

The militant, active in the border belt for the past several years, was the brain behind the attack on the chopper carrying Omar Abdullah at Lolab on June 23 this year, the spokesman said.
