PM agrees to meet Musharraf in New York

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has accepted Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's invitation for a meeting in New York next month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting, it was officially stated on Monday.

''We are asking our permanent mission in New York to tie up details of time and venue with Pakistan'', an external affairs ministry spokesperson told reporters in New Delhi.

Pakistan High Commissioner Ashraf Jehangir Qazi had on Friday conveyed to Foreign Secretary Chokila Iyer that President Musharraf would like to invite the prime minister for a meeting in New York.

The spokesperson said the meeting in New York would provide an opportunity to the two leaders to ''pick up the threads from the discussions at Agra and lay down a framework for further interaction.''
