President's medal for reform-minded jail superintendent

Superintendent of Central Jail, Jodhpur, and senior Prison Service Officer Shyam Sunder Bissa has been chosen for the President's medal for jail reforms, official sources in Jaipur said on Saturday.

Bissa had launched the 'Naya jeevan' (new life) scheme in Ajmer Central Jail as a pilot project, which is now being run in all prisons in Rajasthan, the sources said.

The first Prison Service Officer in Rajasthan to get the award, Bissa will be presented the medal on Republic Day next year.

He had gone to England in 1990 for special training in prison management and human rights in jails. He has chaired several international conferences on prison management.
