Eight militants, jawan killed in Kashmir

Eight militants and a security jawan were killed in separate encounters, while security forces unearthed three arms dumps in the Kashmir valley since Friday night, a defence spokesman said on Saturday.

Three Pakistani militants were killed in an operation launched by the security forces in Shrinkar forests near Suntwari in Machil sector of Kupwara.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

Two militants were killed by the security forces in another encounter which took place at Samsin village in Badgam district of central Kashmir on Friday night.

Two assault rifles, an under-barrel grenade launcher, two wireless sets, four grenades and some ammunitions were recovered from them, the spokesman said.

He said troops gunned down two more militants in separate encounters at Charkote-Gagal in Kupwara and Saloosa-Pattan in Baramulla on Friday night. Three assault rifles, a hand grenade and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

A security jawan was killed during an encounter in which a house where the militants had taken shelter was razed to the ground, official sources said.

Border Security Force troops killed a militant of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in an encounter at Santosh post in Kupwara district on Friday. A rifle, four magazines with 120 rounds and two grenades were recovered from him, the sources said.

Another militant was arrested by the BSF and two rockets and four explosive sticks were recovered during search operations at Satpora-Tutigund in Kupwara on Friday night.

The police arrested six youths along with their guide at Shola in border town of Uri in north Kashmir while they were trying to cross the LoC, the sources said.

A militant hideout was busted by the BSF and six lethal anti-tank rifle grenades recovered from Chan Mohalla locality in Sringar on Friday.

Army troops destroyed two more hideouts, one each at Lash Dat Nar near the loc in Kupwara and Watlab-Shiva in Sopore area of Baramulla on Friday, the sources said, adding seven kg of RDX, 25 grenades, 10 RPG rockets with boosters, four solar rockets with two fuses, one remote control device and 54 explosive sticks were recovered.
