Bombay police have launched a massive hunt for three employees of a plastic factory suspected to be involved in the murder of eight of their colleagues in Goregaon, on Bombay's outskirts.
According to the police, three workers -- Amarjit alias Suraj, Kailash and Pankaj -- who used to reside within the Poonam Plastics factory premises have been missing since the murders.
More than 200 policemen have been deployed to comb all exit points, red light areas and other possible hideouts.
The three workers hailing from different states lived in the factory premises, like most employees in several small-scale industrial units in Bombay do.
Police said they had collected vital clues after interrogating employees of Poonam Plastics and neighbouring workshops.
The workers could have killed their five colleagues and the factory's owners over a love affair, police said. Factory owner Daljibhai Chowdhury had reportedly reprimanded one of the absconding employees for having an affair with a woman employee.
Owners and employees of more than 900 industrial units in the Rocky Industrial Estate, where the murders took place, said the killings were initially suspected to be the work of disgruntled workers.
Several units in the industrial estate had recently retrenched workers due to an economic downturn. Militant trade unionism was also rampant within the industrial estate, a packaging unit owner said.
