Opposition walks out of LS
over Jammu killings issue

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Opposition parties on Thursday staged a walk-out in the Lok Sabha after expressing dissatisfaction with Union Home Minister L K Advani's reply on the calling attention motion on the recent killings in Jammu.

MPs led by Deputy Leader of Opposition Madhavrao Scindia and Cngress member Priya Ranjan Das Munshi told Speaker G M C Balayogi that the Opposition was walking out of the House as they were not satisfied with Advani's reply.

Advani in his reply to the calling attention motion pointed out that the government was doing everything to prevent killings by militants.

He pointed out to the killing of two top militants Lashkar-e-Tayiba area commandant Abu Ghulam and Hizbul Mujahideen's Abdul Hameed Tantray.

He also pointed out that the strength of the security forces in Jammu was more than in the pre-Kargil days.

It was at this juncture that Ramdas Athavale (Republican Party of India) got up and told the Speaker that he was walking out of the House because he was not satisfied with the home minister's reply.

He was followed by the entire Opposition.
