The killing of 15 Hindu villagers on Saturday morning at village Shruntidhar Paddar near Kishtwar in Doda district has been condemned by both pro-freedom and pro-India groups.
"We strongly condemn the killings. In fact, we have been maintaining all along that the government should not follow the policy of appeasement and go ahead with a proactive approach to contain militancy," Panun Kashmir spokesperson Shakti Bhan told rediff.com. in New Delhi.
Equally strong condemnation of the incident has come from the separatist conglomerate Hurriyat Conference.
"We strongly condemn this massacre, like we have done in the past when such killings took place," a Hurriyat spokesman said.
"A probe by an impartial agency of international repute into such killings would bring out the truth. Like the Justice Pandiyan enquiry into the Chittisinghpora killings revealed that the Special Operations Group of J&K police was responsible for the incident," the Hurriyat spokesman said.
Human rights organisations too have deplored the killings. Justice Rajender Sachher, retired judge and human rights activist associated with the People's Union for Civil Liberties, described the killings as "horrible, sad and condemnable."
