A day after a superintendent of police of Jammu and Kashmir was picked up and detained by the Delhi police in a case of mistaken identity, city cops made another goof-up and detained other four persons from the state, including two sons of Jamaat-e-Islami chief G M Bhat, without assigning any reason.
Shabir Bhat and Mohammed Sayeed Bhat, both sons of Jamaat chief Mohammed Rafiq Lone, and two of their associates were picked up by the police on Friday morning and detained for over nine hours.
The four were kept at the Turkman gate police station till 2045 hours even though the Delhi police's special branch, dealing exclusively with militancy, and the Intelligence Bureau had cleared them.
Ajay Chadda, the district's joint commissioner, said he was not aware of the incident.
After his release, Shabir Bhat said that cops from the local police post came to his residence and took the four of them to the police station.
"A search of the premises revealed nothing. I showed them documentary evidence that I was in Delhi to attend a meeting with the management of M Way India Enterprises, who are in the gold business," Bhat said.
"The cops refused to listen to us and detained us without any reason for over nine hours," he said.
