Recovery suits filed against
Chandra Shekhar, Rao, Gowda

Recovery suits have been filed against former prime ministers Chandra Shekhar, P V Narasimha Rao and H D Deve Gowda - who owe a total of over Rs 220 million to the government for using defence aircraft, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

While the amount outstanding against Chandra Shekhar is Rs 12,47,67,414, Rao owes Rs 8,93,34,098 and Gowda Rs 77,55,325, Defence Minister Jaswant Singh said in a written reply.

The total outstanding dues from persons and organisations for the use of IAF aircraft is a little over Rs 1.46 billion as on March this year, he said.

Rs 1.69 billion was recovered in 1999-2000 and Rs 1.30 billion in 2000-01 following regular requests by government, he added.
