The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday lifted quantitative restrictions on the export of sugar, Union Food Minister Shanta Kumar informed reporters.
He said there would be no need to register with the Agriculture and Processed Food Export Development authorities to export sugar.
He also said the lifting of QRs on the export of sugar would encourage international trade in Indian white sugar.
In another decision, the CCA accorded administrative and financial sanction for setting up two pressurised heavy water reactors at Kaiga.
The Kaiga-III and Kaiha-IV units would generate 220 MW of electricity.
The units are being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 2856 crore and it is expected that Kaiga-III unit will enter commercial operation by October, 2008 and Kagia-IV by 2009.
The CCA also approved the revised cost estimates of Moga-Hisar-Bhiwani transmission system at a cost of Rs 150.90 crore.
The minister said this transmission system was approved in 1988 at an estimated cost of Rs 95.16 crore.
