Non-bailable warrant against former Shahi Imam

A Delhi court has issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against former Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Syed Abdullah Bukhari after he failed to attend court in a case relating to illegal construction of a wazookhana on DDA land near the historic mosque in violation of the Public Premises Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate M S Rohilla on Saturday directed the police to serve the warrant and produce Syed Abdullah Bukhari before the court by July seven.

Jama Masjid SHO Ranvir Singh said the warrant could not be served as Bukhari was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to undergo an operation after April five.

A case was registered against Bukhari in 1996 for illegally constructing a wazookhana on the Delhi Development Authority land in violation of Public Premises Act.

But the state authorities had demolished it. However, the case was not withdrawn.

On January 20, the court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against Bukhari after he failed to respond to several summons.
