Tansi case orders reserved for Oct 9

Special Judge-III P Anbazhagan Friday reserved orders to October 9, in the Rs 40 million Tansi land deal case in which former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha was prime accused.

The judge reserved the orders after hearing the final arguments from both sides.

The prosecution case was that the prime land belonging to the state-owned Tansi at Guindy was purchased by Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterpirises, in which Jayalalitha and her aide Sasikala were partners, at a price far below the guideline value allegedly causing a loss of Rs 40 million to the government.

Besides Jayalalitha and Sasikala, the other accused in the case were Indian Administrative Service officials T R Srinivasan, Karpoorasundara Pandian, former AIADMK minister Mohd Asif and former special deputy collector (stamps) S Nagarajan.

The Madras high court had on January 13 discharged Jayalalitha from the case. However, on a special leave petition filed by the state government, the Supreme Court erased the high court order and directed Jayalalitha to face the trial.
