E-Mail this report to a friend

Four militants, including a commander of the Muslim Janbaaz Force, were killed in two separate encounters with the security forces in the Kashmir valley Friday night, an official spokesman said.

He said security forces in a joint operation with police raided Hafarada forest in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir on Friday evening, following a tip-off that some militants were holed up there.

The joint search party was fired at by the hiding militants and in the ensuing encounter two militants -- identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Pir alias Abu Basharat and Wali Mohammad alias Abu Rashed -- were killed, the spokesman said.

Mushtaq, a self-styled divisional commander of Muslim Janbaaz Force had recently returned from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir to reorganise the outfit and motivate youth to join its ranks, the spokesman said.

Two AK assault rifles, six grenades and some ammunition were recovered from the hideout.

In the other encounter, the security forces gunned down two militants of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami in Gandole area of Kokernag in Anantnag district late Friday night.

Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, identified as Hafeez Bhat of Banihal and Zaffar Ahmad Bhat of Kishtwar.
