IED with 10 kg of RDX found in Rajouri

A possible major tragedy was averted with the timely detection of an improvised explosive device containing 10 kg of RDX under a bridge in Rajouri district, an official spokesman said on Friday.

The explosive, kept in a pressure cooker, was found by a road opening party yesterday.

The area was immediately cordoned off, the trigger activated and the IED defused, he said.

This was the second attempt by militants in the past 15 days to blow up the bridge located near the residence of former minister and National Conference leader Talib Hussain, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, army personnel arrested one Kalu Khan, working as a washerman in the military hospital after seizing five kg of RDX from his residence, he said.

Khan also acted as guide to militants in the border district, the spokesman said.

During search operations in Mithyani Gala of the district security forces seized one radio set, two hand grenades, 10 rounds of AK ammunition, one detonator, six pencil cells and propaganda material.
