12 ultras, jawan among 14 killed in J&K

Twelve militants, a jawan and a woman were killed in Jammu and Kashmir where militants abducted two persons since Sunday evening.

Four militants, including a 'tehsil commander' of the Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed in a major encounter with security forces at Tantna in Doda district of Jammu on Sunday evening, an official spokesman said in Srinagar on Monday.

He said arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, identified as Ishtiaq Ahmad, Javid Iqbal, Mohammad Saleem and a Pakistani militant Safi.

Four more militants - one each in Kathua and Bruthi-Panjni in Poonch and two in Rajouri - were killed by security forces on Sunday night and early on Monday, the spokesman said.

Two Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants were killed in encounters with security forces in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, he said. Security forces shot dead a militant Fareed Ahmad of Al-Burq outfit in Kupwara on Sunday.

In another encounter at Chowan-Keller forest in Pulwama district, a militant Abdul Rashid alias Larif Bhai of Pakistan was gunned down, he said.

Militants ambushed a security patrol in Kupwara on Sunday night killing a jawan, injuring another and also killed a woman in Kupwara late on Sunday night, he said.

Militants abducted two persons from Baramulla and Srinagar on Sunday night, he said.

Police arrested two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit from Pulwama district on Sunday and recovered arms and ammunition from them, he said.
