Blast at Lashkar meeting kills one, injures seven

One person was killed and seven others injured on Sunday when a grenade was thrown at a gathering of Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Tayiba in Karachi, the group said.

An official of the outfit said a grenade was hurled at the crowd of hundreds of people holding a convention at a school ground in the port city. He said one person died and seven others who were injured were admitted to a hospital.

Lashkar-e-Tayiba, one of the main guerrilla outfits fomenting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, started a two-day convention in Karachi on Saturday in support of Palestinians.

The group had announced the launch of a jihad (holy war) against Israel and the outfit's top leader Hafiz Saeed said thousands of volunteers would be sent to fight for the liberation of Jerusalem.
