Subject: A Call For Partition

Such articles only give needless publicity to lousy movements like this one which in turn thrive on such publicity. You should stop publishing such articles.

I have been born and brought up in Tamil Nadu and now work in California. I think a call for separate Tamil homeland is absolute nonsense.

I am sure not more than five per cent of the population here even thinks of a separate Tamil homeland. Why rake up an issue that is so microscopic in size?

Reporting a genuine issue/problem is different from trying to show off one's knowledge about some fringe happenings. Do you mean to say that no other state (except say Kashmir or Punjab) has extremists and a minor populace supporting it? Is Tamil Nadu the only state where there is a party/group that demands independence? Your main image showing Tamil Nadu carved out of India is the worst insult you can ever cast on us!

A good article but it was not concluded well.

All this is nothing but total fabrication by Prabhakaran and his goons. The Government of India should wake up and crush this ideology or else this state will become another Punjab.

I am a mechanical engineer and an MBA from Pune. I agree to the demand for separate homeland for Tamilians. My heart goes out to my fellow brethren suffering in Sri Lanka.

The Indian government keeps quiet while the Lankans butcher Tamilians. The DMK government hasn't done anything for them. Who should they turn to for help?

I think this series of articles is aimed only at provoking Tamils and though I hate to admit it, you have succeeded in doing just that. I don't understand why Tamilians are the favourite punching bag of most of rediff writers.

Tamils are very much a part of the fabric of Indian society. They have contributed their share to the growth and development of India as much as any other state. In some cases even more so than some of the other states. Sometimes, it just hurts us to be labelled as being anti-India.

I don't think this article makes any sense. Just because one bandit Veerappan kidnaps Rajkumar, now this article is making a villain out of all Tamils. And there is nothing wrong in Tamils being proud of their language and culture. If the others or not so, they have only themselves to blame, not the Tamils.

All this is nonsense. I am a Tamilian, but first I am a proud Indian.

Hypothetically, if the governments of Sri Lanka and India accede to this stupendous demand, they should also make sure that all those Tamils staying in their country should return to their homeland, so to speak. We don't really want to nurture foreign spies and let them flourish, do we?

Although there may be a few lunatics who wish for a separate Tamil nation, the vast majority of Tamils do not have any such views. Also, now with the rapid development of IT, boundaries between states or countries have no value.

This is utter nonsense and you are only encouraging such divisive groups by giving them publicity.

I am sure the members of VTNP are mad. Our Constitution allows us to speak any language. It does not discriminate between people on the basis of language. Every country has a national language. This concept promotes national integrity. Parties like VTNP spoils this concept. We should take measures to eradicate the concepts which spoil our country.

We should work on issues like poverty, illiteracy etc. We should use our energy and resources for constructive purposes. We should not fight over petty issues. The views of VTNP are similar to a child who is fighting with his elder brother for a toy.

Hindi is spoken by many people in India. So it has been made the national language. The main idea behind national language is that if a guy goes to some state for some purpose (say, business) he can feel comfortable if he knows the national language. Having a national language does not negate the importance of other languages.

Let us all work together for India's development. Let us all be proud that we are Indians. Let us forgot our individual interests and work for our country's development.

I think whoever talks about the secession of any state from the country should be deemed as an extremist and terrorist organisation and the act should be nipped in bud.

An absurd and suicidal idea which is basically the outcome of the narrow, chauvinistic and tribal thinking promoted by the mainline Tamil parties. Their world view is generally no better than that of the jihadi forces across the border and takes root from an inferiority complex.

There is no Brahmin domination in Tamil Nadu today and Tamil Nadu is doing very well. Industry and agriculture is booming, youngsters are going in for technical education. So they have a lot to be proud of.

I myself being a Tamil, don't know how to react to this article. Personally, I don't want anything of this sort to happen. It should be suppressed with an iron fist.
