7 years' RI for Arun Gawli

Underworld don Arun Gawli was on Wednesday sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by the city, civil and sessions court in Bombay for possessing an AK-56 assault rifle.

Additional sessions judge P K Chawre awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to Gawli for possessing the AK-56. The weapon was seized from him on August 21, 1990, from his bastion at Dagdi Chawl at Byculla in south Bombay.

He was convicted under Section 5 of Terrorist And Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 25 (1) (b) of the Arms Act. He was arrested on August 21, 1990 and was in custody till September nine, 1994. This period will be deducted from the period of the sentence.
