Four infiltrators, army jawan among 19 killed in J&K

Seventeen militants, including four Pakistani infiltrators, an army jawan and a civilian were among 19 people killed while security forces arrested three militants, including a self-styled commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

In another development, seven boys who were abducted by militants from Surankote recently, managed to escape from their clutches on Thursday evening. The youths later reached an army camp at Surankote.

Defence sources said in Srinagar on Friday that troops foiled two infiltration bids from across the border in Poonch and Akhnoor sectors on Thursday evening when they gunned down four heavily armed infiltrators.

A large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, including two AK assault rifles, five RPG rockets, five rocket boosters, one 32 calibre revolver, 19 grenades of under barrel grenade launcher, 27 assorted grenades, seven improvised explosive device switches, one wireless set and a binocular, were recovered from them, sources said.

Sources said troops belonging to Dah division, on receiving specific information about the presence of some foreign militants at Thinmarg village in Mhor tehsil on Thursday evening, launched a search operation during which they came under attack from militants with automatic weapons and grenades.

Six militants belonging to the Jais-e-mohammad and Al-badr militant outfits were killed in the ensuing encounter. Sepoy Devender Bhati was killed while six other soldiers, including Subedar Mathu Singh were wounded.

Three AK rifles, 24 magazines, 40 grenades, two RPG attachments, one wireless set and 125 rounds were recovered from the slain militants.

Sources said troops killed two militants in Banihal area on Thursday evening during a search operation. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.

An official said that an encounter took place between militants and security forces at Hargawas Kapran in south Kashmir in the wee hours of Friday during which three militants of the Lashkar-e-tayiba were killed. Three rifles, 9 magazines, 150 rounds and nine grenades were recovered from the slain militants.

One militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at village Bhattan on Thursday evening. One jawan also sustained injuries in the shootout.

According to the official, an encounter ensued during a search operation at village Thandichan late on Thursday night in which a militant was killed. One woman was also wounded, he said and added one AK rifle and two grenades were recovered from the slain militant.

Militants abducted and later killed one Mohammad Hussain at Kalal Kas on Thursday evening while forces arrested three militants, including a self styled platoon commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen in the valley during overnight operations.
