J&K cabinet approves state funding of elections

Jammu and Kashmir cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal for state funding of political parties during elections.

As per the proposal, the candidate of a recognised political party will be provided a specified number of vehicles, one set of loud speaker for every assembly segment subject to a maximum of six sets for a parliamentary constituency, one telephone for each assembly segment and six for a parliamentary constituency.

The state cabinet approved the proposal on Wednesday evening after considering the recommendations of the high-power committee set up by the Union government for providing state funding to recognised political parties for elections.
