Cyclonic storm to hit coast
between Madras, Nagapattinam

Shobha Warrier in Madras

The depression over the Bay of Bengal has started moving in a north-eastwardly direction towards Madras as a severe cyclonic storm. At 1400 hours, the Area Cyclonic Warning Centre informed that the storm which is 50 kilometres off Cuddalore would strike the coast between Nagapattinam and Madras in Tamil Nadu around 1600 hours.

Cuddalore, which is just 22 kms from Pondicherry, is experiencing strong winds reaching up to 150 kms/hr. "It may take an hour or two hours for the storm to strike. Madras, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Pondicherry will face the brunt of the storm," the warning centre announced.
