A K Suri new police chief of J&K: PTI

A K Suri, a senior Jammu and Kashmir cadre Indian Police Service officer, is being appointed new police chief of the state, highly placed sources said on Monday night.

The decision to appoint Suri comes after weeks of deliberation during which Home Minister L K Advani consulted J&K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

A 1969 batch officer, Suri is additional director general (CID) in J&K.

A formal announcement about his appointment is expected in a few days.

Suri replaces Gurbachan Jagat, who has been appointed BSF director general.
