Police suspect militants' hand
in Sikhs' massacre: PTI

Two of the four militants of the terrorist outfit Laskhar-e-Tayiba nabbed in Thane district on Thursday were suspected to be involved in the massacre of 35 Sikhs at Chhatisingpura in south Kashmir in March this year.

''We have a strong suspicion that Hazma and Saifulla were involved in the massacre as these names appear in the chargesheet, but we have to verify the facts,'' DCP Parambir Singh told PTI.

The Thane police had nabbed these militants, belonging to the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, who were on a mission to blow up the residence of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

The suicide squad of the militant outfit had also planned to bomb the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters in Nagpur, important installations of Bombay High and create trouble in naval areas. The militants had also surveyed the RSS head office and Sena leader's residence.

The police recovered two AK-46 rifles with two full magazines, three powerful hand-grenades of Pakistan make and some literature from the militants.

Senior officials are on high alert and security has been stepped up at all important installations in the state, according to Bhujbal.
